SIPITANG — A fire broke out at a used oil storage site at the former SFI factory here this afternoon, but no casualties were reported.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 4.30pm and dispatched a team from the Sipitang Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, located about 9 kilometres away.
Firefighters arrived at 4.42pm and confirmed that a fire had occurred at the storage site.
The operation commander, PBK I Syahdennie Alidinsah, led a team of nine personnel in extinguishing the blaze. The firefighting operation was also aided by an excavator belonging to a contractor at the site to facilitate suppression work.
The fire was brought under control at 6.44pm, and the operation was fully concluded at 7.51pm after ensuring there were no further hazards at the location.
Senior operation commander PPgB Calvin Joe Jeafery said further investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
