LABUAN — The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) of the Federal Territory of Labuan detained six foreign nationals in an early morning enforcement operation targeting illegal foreign settlements today.
Labuan Immigration director Mohd Redzuan Nawi said the operation, conducted between 12.15am and 2.00am, focused on two settlements believed to be occupied by foreign nationals.
“Based on intelligence and information gathered, a team of enforcement officers moved into the identified locations and inspected 41 individuals comprising both foreign and local nationals,” he said in a statement today.
He said those detained comprised four adult women and two female children from the Philippines.
“All of them are suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155),” he said, adding that the detainees are currently being held at the Labuan District Police Headquarters and the Labuan Immigration Depot for further investigation.
Mohd Redzuan said the department would continue to take firm action against any parties found violating the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963, as well as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
He also warned that strict action would be taken against those found employing or harbouring illegal immigrants.
