LABUAN — Two retail traders were compounded during an enforcement operation carried out by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in the Federal Territory of Labuan.
KPDN Labuan Director Junaidah Arbain said two enforcement teams were deployed to conduct inspections in rural areas across Labuan to ensure traders comply with laws and regulations.
“A total of 50 business premises, including grocery shops and other retail outlets, were inspected during the operation,” she said in a statement today.
She said the checks found that two retailers had committed offences by failing to display price tags on goods offered for sale.
“The offence falls under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723) and the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020. Upon conviction, individuals may face fines of up to RM50,000 or be compounded, while companies may be fined up to RM100,000,” she said.
Junaidah said overall, the majority of traders were found to be in compliance with the regulations.
She added that KPDN Labuan will continue to intensify inspections from time to time, including in rural areas, to ensure consumer protection and fair trade practices are upheld.
She also encouraged members of the public to channel any complaints or information on trader misconduct through KPDN’s official channels for appropriate action.
