LABUAN — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan conducted inspections and investigations into consumer complaints involving two enforcement teams comprising eight officers around this island today.
Labuan KPDN director Junaidah Arbain said the operation resulted in enforcement action against two companies for offences under laws enforced by the ministry.
She said the first compound was issued to a personal care premises for an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723) for failing to comply with price marking requirements under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020.
“Inspections found that the premises failed to clearly and properly display cash sale price tags on trade goods,” she said in a statement today.
According to Junaidah, the offence carries a fine of up to RM50,000 for a first offence and up to RM100,000 for subsequent offences upon conviction.
She said the second compound involved a parking service provider for an offence under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 (Act 71) for using a parking time-recording device with an expired verification period.
“The use of weighing and measuring instruments that are unverified or have expired verification is an offence under subsection 14(6) of the same Act and, upon conviction, offenders may face a fine of up to RM40,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both,” she said.
Junaidah said KPDN Labuan would continue to intensify inspections and enforcement activities from time to time to ensure traders comply with laws enforced by the ministry while safeguarding consumer rights and interests.
She also urged the public to channel complaints regarding unethical business practices through KPDN’s official channels to enable immediate action to be taken.
