LABUAN — The Islamic Affairs and Mosque Sector (SHEIM) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL), in collaboration with the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FKI), recently organized a spiritual program in conjunction with the Eid al-Adha celebration.
Themed ‘Qurban Jiwa, Harmoni Kerja: Membina Ukhuwwah Dalam Era Digitalisasi’ (Soul Sacrifice, Work Harmony: Building Brotherhood in the Digitalization Era), the event was held at the Kiansam Seminar Room, UMSKAL Podium, and featured a lecture by Ustaz Shahirul Abdullah, the Imam of Masjid Sirajul Islam in Kampung Tanjung Aru, Labuan.
UMSKAL Islamic Affairs Officer Ustaz Alfaiz Darsono stated that the lecture delved into the true meaning of qurban (sacrifice), emphasizing that it extends beyond the ritual slaughter of animals to encompass sacrificing time, energy, attitude, and emotions in daily life and the workplace.
He noted that a primary objective was to heighten awareness among the university community on internalizing spiritual values to shape personal character and foster a positive work culture. Additionally, the initiative aimed to strengthen ukhuwwah (brotherhood) and cooperation among university staff to create a more harmonious, respectful, and tolerant environment.
“At the same time, the lecture shed light on the challenges of the digitalization era, which can affect social relationships and emotional balance if not properly managed based on religious values,” Ustaz Alfaiz added.
He further explained that true sacrifice requires letting go of worldly comforts to attain the blessings of the Almighty.
“May the sacrifices we make be accepted by Allah and guide us to become more devout individuals,” he said.
The event was attended by UMSKAL academic and administrative staff, alongside key officials including the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni (FKAL), Dr. Noor Hassanah Husin; Deputy Chief Librarian, Rosnitah Gumpar; Head of the Administration and Human Resources Sector (SPSM), Mas Adi Alimin; Senior Assistant Registrar of the Centre for Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning, Noraini Samsu; and FKI Assistant Administrative Officer, Roslinahwati Abdul Rajak.
