LABUAN — The Federal Territory of Labuan recorded a slight increase in its Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2025, rising to 2.69 from 2.68 in the previous year.
Labuan Education Department Director Yahya Ahmad Puteh noted that alongside the improved state average, two candidates achieved a perfect CGPA of 4.00, doubling the number from 2024.
“For STPM 2025, the CGPA for WP Labuan has increased by 0.01 points. Furthermore, all 156 candidates, representing 100 per cent of those who sat for the exams, are eligible to receive their STPM 2025 certificates,” he said during the STPM 2025 press conference held today at the Champion Hall of SMK Labuan.
Yahya stated that 167 candidates initially registered for the examinations, with 156 candidates (93.41 per cent) remaining present up to STPM Semester 3. Out of the attending candidates, 101 belong to the B40 income category.
“The number of candidates scoring a CGPA of 3.00 and above has also increased by 11 students, making it 57 candidates in total compared to 44 in 2024,” he added.
However, he acknowledged that the full pass rate for four subjects experienced a slight decline of 1.28 per cent, settling at 98.72 per cent from a perfect 100 per cent in 2024.
Academically, three subjects demonstrated a performance improvement of over three per cent, namely Usuluddin, Business Studies, and Economics. In addition to the STPM results, the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) 2025 saw nine students achieving an excellent band score of 4.5.
Addressing the dropouts, Yahya explained that 11 registered candidates were absent as they had discontinued their schooling.
“These candidates were absent because they had either pursued higher education at public or private higher education institutions (IPTA/IPTS), entered the workforce, or for other personal reasons,” he said.
Concluding the press conference, Yahya expressed his highest appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the state’s academic success.
“Congratulations to all STPM and MUET 2025 candidates for their proud achievements. Thank you to everyone involved in this success, including parents, Form Six teachers, the SMK Labuan school administration, Labuan Education Department’s staffs, the local community, and the media,” he said.
