LABUAN — In an effort to ensure the long-term safety of its campus community, Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) has provided its Security Sector with specialised wild animal trapping equipment to humanely control the stray dog population on campus.
UMSKAL Director, Professor Dr. Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin, officiated the handover ceremony held at the Central Lecture Hall Complex parking lot this morning.
The primary objective of deploying these traps is to manage the stray and wild dog population in a humane manner while establishing a long-term safety approach for all UMSKAL residents.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Shamsul Bahari reminded security personnel to strictly prioritise the safety of the students, as well as their own, during any trapping operations.
“Security personnel must fully utilise the provided equipment when carrying out their duties to catch these wild animals,” he said.
He also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to UMSKAL security officers and personnel for their continuous dedication in safeguarding the campus community, particularly the undergraduates.
To ensure effective operations, the ceremony featured a practical demonstration on the correct installation and usage of the trapping equipment.
Also present at the event were Acting Director of the UMS Security Division (Registrar’s Department) ASP/PB Massalinri Mohd Tahir, Head of the UMSKAL Security Sector ASP/PB Rakam Singh A/L Karam Singh, Head of Residential College Administration Norhanizah Adnan, and Student Affairs (HEP) representative Mohd. Nurulizam Tinggal.
Other auxiliary police personnel in attendance included SM/PB Gordon Lazarus, SJN/PB Ahmad Shukry A Razak, SJN/PB Nester Petrus, L/KPL/PB George Songgorou, L/KPL/PB Severinus Eji, L/KPL/PB Mohd Ridwan Mohammad, and Konst/PB Masdi Malin.
