LABUAN — Maxim Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and digital innovation by serving as the main sponsor of the Federal Territory of Labuan Secondary School Esports Championship 2026, which brought together students from 12 secondary schools here.
The championship, held on June 20 and 21, featured three popular game categories — PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends and eFootball — providing students with a platform to showcase their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in a competitive esports environment.
As the main sponsor, Maxim Malaysia contributed prizes for the winners, championship trophies, medals and special Maxim promotional codes for participants to enhance the overall experience and encourage greater participation in esports activities.
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Labuan Education Department, including Labuan Youth and Sports Department director Mahanum Fauzi and the Deputy Director of Education for Labuan.
In her speech, Mahanum highlighted the growing significance of esports, noting that it had evolved from a niche pastime into a globally recognised competitive sport.
She said tournaments such as the Federal Territory of Labuan Secondary School Esports Championship served as an important platform to identify and nurture young talent while encouraging students to pursue their interests responsibly.
However, she reminded participants that academic excellence should remain a priority as they prepare for their future careers.
The championship saw SMK Mutiara successfully defend its title and emerge as the overall champion for the second consecutive year among participating secondary schools.
Maxim Malaysia director Mohd Hazwan Musley said the company fully supported initiatives that empowered young people through esports and digital innovation.
“We believe esports serves as a valuable platform for developing essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, strategic thinking, discipline and leadership,” he said.
Mohd Hazwan said the growing digital landscape embraced by Generation Z made it important for students to be equipped with future-ready skills.
“Maxim is committed to supporting programmes that help nurture future-ready talents while encouraging a healthy balance between academic achievement and extracurricular development.
“Through events like this, we hope to inspire young talents to explore their potential and prepare themselves for opportunities in an increasingly digital world,” he said.
He said technology had become an integral part of young people’s lives, adding that esports, when guided appropriately, could contribute positively to personal growth by fostering collaboration, critical thinking, discipline and leadership qualities.
Maxim Malaysia said it remained committed to supporting educational, community and youth-focused initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for young people while promoting innovation, inclusivity and responsible digital engagement.
