LABUAN — A restaurant operator here was issued a compound after a public complaint lodged through the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s (KPDN) official e-Aduan portal led to an inspection that found the premises had failed to display cash selling price tags for cooked food offered to customers.

KPDN Labuan enforcement officers conducted an investigation and inspection at the premises to verify the complaint received.

The inspection found that the cooked food displayed and offered for sale did not have cash selling price tags as required under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020, made under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723).

Following the finding, the restaurant operator was issued a compound for failing to comply with the prescribed price-marking requirements.

KPDN Labuan director Junaidah Arbain said traders offering cooked food must ensure selling prices are clearly displayed so consumers can know the prices before making their choices or purchases.

“Clear price marking is also important to prevent confusion and price disputes and to ensure transactions are conducted transparently,” she said in a statement today.

She said KPDN Labuan would continue monitoring businesses and take action against traders who failed to comply with the laws in force.

Under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723), an individual convicted of an offence may be fined up to RM50,000 or imprisoned for up to two years, or both. For a subsequent offence, the fine may be up to RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both.

For a company or corporate body, the fine may be up to RM100,000, and up to RM250,000 for a subsequent offence.

Junaidah also urged the public to continue channeling information and complaints concerning traders’ misconduct through KPDN’s official channels to enable investigations and appropriate action to be taken.
