ALOR SETAR — Labuan’s young karate athletes delivered a standout performance at the National Olympic Talent Carnival Series 1/2026, finishing fourth overall among 14 states after collecting two gold medals, one silver and two bronze medals.

The strong showing underlined Labuan’s growing strength in youth karate and provided an encouraging boost ahead of several major national assignments later this month.

Leading the medal charge was Nur Aleesya Dayana Asmadie, who captured gold in the Girls’ 13–14 Individual Kumite (-54kg) after edging past opponents from Perak and Kedah in a series of closely fought bouts.

The second gold medal was delivered by Khaidyn Nazeem Mazri in the Boys’ 13–14 Individual Kumite (+70kg) category. He produced a dominant display, defeating Perlis 8-0 in the semi-finals before overcoming Selangor in the final.

Labuan’s silver medal came through Nur Ariesya Dayana Asmadie in the Girls’ 13–14 Individual Kumite (-47kg) event. She advanced to the final with victories over Melaka, Perlis and Sarawak before narrowly losing 8-10 to Kelantan in the title bout.

The bronze medals were contributed by Ayqal Mohd Dzulfadly in the Boys’ 13–14 Individual Kumite (-52kg) and Muhammad Adil Mohd Badruddin in the Boys’ 15–16 Individual Kata.

The team was led by Sensei Syarulniza Abdul Jamil, who served as coach and team manager.

Describing the result as a promising start, Syarulniza said the carnival was an important stepping stone for Labuan’s young prospects as they prepare for the 2026 National U14, Cadet, Junior and U21 Karate Championship as well as the Pre-SUKMA competition in Selangor at the end of April.

She said the tournament also played a key role in the national athlete selection process, making it a valuable platform for emerging talents.

Syarulniza expressed hope that all athletes would continue to sharpen their focus and commitment in training to meet the goals set for the season.
