LABUAN — Three local museums here have launched a simultaneous, month-long holiday campaign featuring traditional heritage games, hands-on STEM education, and interactive ocean conservation programs to keep families engaged during the mid-year school holidays.
The coordinated initiatives, which kicked off on May 23 and will run through June 30, 2026, are being hosted across the Labuan Museum, Chimney Museum, and Labuan Marine Museum.
Labuan Museum official Affendi Tawakkal said the extensive programs aim to provide a balanced holiday escape that bridges generational gaps, combining historic Bornean customs with modern interactive sciences.
“At the main Labuan Museum, visitors can participate in the flagship “Maitah Ke Muzium Labuan: Mengilala Sejarah & Budaya Kitani” cultural festival, running until June 30. Daily highlights include a specialized mini exhibition titled “Manifestasi Padi dalam Kehidupan Masyarakat Borneo” alongside digital-age youth competitions like the Harvest Festival Canva Infographic Poster and Creative TikTok contests,” he said.
He also highlighted upcoming cultural spectacles at the main museum, including the traditional village-style cooking competitions and the highly anticipated Children’s Unduk Ngadau & Kumang Gawai cultural pageants scheduled for June 20.

Concurrently, the Chimney Museum is blending history with technology through its traditional and heritage play zone. Running until June 7, families can try physical nostalgic games like Rampanau (stilts) and Lastik Tin (tin slingshot), alongside the ‘Bijak Rempah’ sensory challenge.
For parents looking to inject science into the break, Affendi noted that the Chimney Museum will host an exclusive, one-day-only Exploration & STEM Workshop on June 3. The free program features a children’s archaeology excavation simulation at 10 am, followed by a hands-on MR DIY solar energy tech workshop at 2.30 pm. Due to limited seating, early registration is strictly required.

Meanwhile, ocean lovers can head over to the Labuan Marine Museum for its “Jom Santai Cuti-Cuti Sekolah” campaign, running until June 6. The venue features interactive daily “Menyelami Samudera” quizzes and a “Guess & Win” visitor contest.
Special weekend fixtures at the marine facility include a unique “Poisonous Marine Species Checkers” board game competition for families on Sunday, May 31, and a children’s marine life colouring contest limited to 20 participants on Saturday, June 6.
Members of the public seeking more details on individual event schedules, age categories, and competition registrations are advised to contact the respective local museum management office at 087-414135.
