LABUAN — A local retail trader here has been issued a compound fine by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan for failing to comply with the regulations of the 2026 Kaamatan and Gawai Festival Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP).

Labuan KPDN Director Junaidah Arbain said the enforcement action was taken following routine inspections conducted by enforcement officers at several business premises around Labuan town during the implementation period of the price control scheme.

“The inspection revealed that the premises was selling controlled price items without displaying the mandatory pink price tags required throughout the SHMMP enforcement period,” she said in a statement today.

Junaidah explained that the offense constitutes a violation of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Controlled Goods) Order under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 [Act 723].

The compound was issued to the trader on-site following an admission of guilt. She stressed that failing to use pink price tags for controlled items could cause confusion among consumers and compromise price transparency during the festive season.

Under the existing legal provisions, individuals convicted of the offense can be fined up to RM10,000 or face a maximum compound of RM5,000. For companies or corporate bodies, the fine can reach up to RM20,000 or a compound of up to RM10,000.

Junaidah assured that Labuan KPDN will continue to intensify its monitoring and compliance inspection activities to ensure all traders adhere to the prevailing laws, thereby safeguarding consumer welfare and rights throughout the SHMMP period.
