LABUAN — The Student Volunteer Club of Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL), in collaboration with the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture Sandakan, recently organised the two-day Volunteer Basic Course 4.0, attracting 35 participants.

Program coordinator Noreffaizza Jali expressed hope that the experience gained would serve as a valuable asset for participants to continue contributing to society with sincerity and dedication.

“Throughout the course, participants were exposed to various self-development activities such as ‘Mindset of a Volunteer’, ‘Emergency Response Planning’, hands-on activities, team building, and an explore race,” she said in a statement here recently.

The program aimed to enhance communication, leadership, and teamwork skills among undergraduates.

Additionally, participants carried out a “Volunteer Mission: From Knowledge to Practice” with the local communities of Kampung Rancha-Rancha Darat and Kampung Ganggarak in the Federal Territory of Labuan.

The mission featured various community work (gotong-royong) activities, including cleaning mosque and community hall premises, cooking sessions with the villagers, and traditional sports (sukan rakyat).

The initiative provided an opportunity for the students to interact directly with the community and embrace the true spirit of volunteerism.

Meanwhile, Kampung Ganggarak village head Mazdi Salleh emphasised that community support for such programs is vital in nurturing a caring and community-minded younger generation.

Kampung Rancha-Rancha Darat Mosque chairman Ustaz Muhammad Azizul Abdul Halik also welcomed the initiative, expressing his gratitude to the UMSKAL students for organising a program that mutually benefited both parties.

Noreffaizza extended her appreciation to both communities for their cooperation in making the program a success.

She also thanked and congratulated all participants, led by program director Deva Nair A/L Ravi.
