SKUDAI, Johor — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Johor has taken follow-up enforcement action over a viral social media incident involving the alleged misuse of subsidised RON95 petrol.

The Director of KPDN Johor, Lilis Saslinda Binti Pornomo, said the case involved a vehicle suspected of filling RON95 fuel into plastic containers in large quantities at a petrol station in the Skudai area on March 21.

“We conducted inspections at the station, including reviewing CCTV footage and examining transaction records and purchase receipts. Preliminary findings revealed two transactions — one involving fuel pumped into the vehicle’s tank, and another into plastic containers stored in the vehicle’s boot, exceeding the permitted limits set by the Supply Controller of Malaysia.

“Enforcement officers have since engaged with the petrol station management and issued reminders to ensure strict compliance with regulations. Further action will include identifying and summoning the vehicle owner to assist in the ongoing investigation,” she said.

She added that the case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 and related regulations. If convicted, individuals face fines of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders may be fined up to RM3 million or jailed for up to five years, or both. Companies may face fines of up to RM2 million, increasing to RM5 million for subsequent offences.

KPDN Johor also urged members of the public to report any violations through multiple channels, including WhatsApp (019-8488000), its e-complaint portal (e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my), call centre (1-800-886-800), and mobile application (Ez ADU KPDN).
