LABUAN — The Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) Student Representative Council (MPP) 2025/2026, in collaboration with the Labuan Health Department, recently organised the CARE4SISWA: CARE4HEALTH programme to promote health awareness and well-being among students.

The programme, held at the Theatrette Hall, UMSKAL Tower, from 8 am to 6.30 pm, involved comprehensive health screenings covering physical, sensory, dental and mental health assessments.

Programme director Keerthana Uma Shanthi A/P Uyappan said the initiative was aimed at encouraging students to prioritise their overall health alongside academic excellence.

She said the programme provided students with an opportunity to undergo early screening for possible health risks while encouraging them to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle on campus.

“Programmes such as this can help raise awareness among the campus community on the importance of early detection, healthy living and seeking professional help without feeling ashamed, especially when facing mental health issues,” she said.

The programme was organised by MPP UMSKAL in collaboration with the Labuan Dental Health Division, Health Promotion Section for fitness screening, Non-Communicable Disease Unit for health screening, and the Psychology and Counselling Unit for mental health consultation.

Also present were Labuan Health Department Disease Control Section head Dr Mohd Hafizzudin Ahmad and Public Health Division Health Promotion Section head Agnes Misun.

Their presence reflected the department’s strong support for efforts to strengthen health awareness and student well-being at the campus level.

The inclusion of mental health screening was also seen as significant in helping reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues often faced by youths.

The successful organisation of CARE4SISWA: CARE4HEALTH reflected MPP UMSKAL’s commitment to implementing student welfare initiatives and supporting the development of a healthy, productive and competitive campus community.
