LABUAN — Visitors to Financial Park Labuan have questioned the continued imposition of a 30 sen fee for the use of toilets at the shopping complex, saying it is time for the facilities to be upgraded and made free for patrons.
A regular visitor, who declined to be named, said although the charge was minimal, the management should review the practice as some shopping malls in Sabah had already provided free toilet access with better-maintained facilities.
“Even though the charge is small, we have to look at the bigger picture. Many malls in Sabah provide free toilets and their facilities are in better condition than ours.
“Financial Park is the only shopping mall in Labuan, and I think it is timely for the toilets to be upgraded. I only use the toilets when it is absolutely necessary,” the visitor said.
Another visitor also questioned why many shopping malls in Peninsular Malaysia, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, offer free toilet facilities despite maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
“The fee should not be imposed on mall visitors as the responsibility for maintaining the toilets should fall under the mall management,” the visitor said.
In response, Financial Park (Labuan) Sdn Bhd (FPL) clarified that the management of the Financial Park Labuan Complex’s common areas and facilities, including the toilet facilities at the Ground Floor and Level 1 Podium, is under the Joint Management Body of Ujana Kewangan.
In a media statement dated June 30, FPL said the facilities had been managed by Joint Management Body of Financial Park (BPBUK) since Dec 1, 2018, in accordance with the Strata Management Act 2013.
FPL said BPBUK appreciated feedback from members of the public and acknowledged the importance of maintaining quality facilities for all visitors.
It said efforts would continue to be made to enhance the amenities at Financial Park Labuan Complex in a sustainable and structured manner for the benefit of the public.
