LABUAN — A total of 97 athletes from Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) are set to compete in the Sabah Higher Education Institutions Sports Championship (SUIPTS) 2026, scheduled from June 17 to 21.
Organised by the UMS Sports Centre, the tournament will be held at the UMS Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu.
The UMSKAL contingent will compete across 10 sporting events, namely men’s volleyball, netball, football, women’s futsal, chess, badminton, petanque, sepak takraw, athletics, and e-sports (Mobile Legends).
Morale is high within the UMSKAL camp following a commendable performance in the 2025 edition of SUIPTS, where they clinched third place overall out of 19 competing contingents, bringing home three gold, one silver, and four bronze medals through chess, badminton, and volleyball.
UMSKAL Director Professor Dr. Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin boosted the athletes’ morale and reinforced their determination ahead of the tournament during a special address and flag-handover ceremony today.
In his address to the athletes, coaches, and team managers, he emphasized the importance of maintaining high discipline, sportsmanship, and giving their best performance throughout the championship.
“Last year’s success serves as motivation for UMSKAL athletes to continue bringing glory to the university in this year’s edition,” he said, adding that he hopes the tournament will provide valuable experience and foster closer ties with athletes from other contingents.
The ceremony, held at the Eureka Room in UMSKAL, was also attended by Youth and Sports Officer and Head of the Sports & Recreation Sector (SSR) Rozeyatie Ibrahim.
The UMSKAL delegation will be accompanied by four secretariat members and nine coaches.
