LABUAN — The Labuan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has launched two concurrent search and rescue (SAR) operations this evening involving an eight-year-old boy feared drowned and an individual reported lost, following distress calls received just four minutes apart.
In the first incident, an eight-year-old boy, identified as Putra Faris Suhaimi, is feared to have drowned in Sungai Ganggarak Permai.
The Labuan JBPM Operations Centre stated that a distress call was received at 6:36 pm, prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team from the Layangan Fire and Rescue Station, located approximately 6.5 kilometres from the scene.
Operations Commander PBK I Mohd Irwan Jaidin reported that the team has initiated a surface search based on information provided by the public. The operation is currently ongoing and involves 14 firefighters equipped with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicles, assisted by police officers and the Tanjung Aru Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS).
Meanwhile, barely four minutes later at 6:40 pm, the department received a second distress call via the National Emergency Call Centre (MERS999) regarding a missing person along the Bukit Kubong trail.
Following the report, a separate rescue team from the Labuan Sentral Fire and Rescue Station was swiftly dispatched to the location.
“The missing person has been rescued,” a Labuan JBPM spokesperson said.
