LABUAN — The Fiesta Rakan Muda Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan 2026 is not merely a carnival, but a platform to gather the talents, creativity, innovation and volunteerism spirit of young people in Labuan under one roof, said Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol.
He said the programme provided opportunities for youths to exchange ideas, build networks and explore new opportunities to enhance their potential.
“Young people are not just future leaders, but movers of the present,” he said when officiating the Fiesta Rakan Muda Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan 2026 at Padang Kampung Layang-Layangan here today.
Mordi said the government remained committed to providing a conducive space for youths to grow, create and contribute to society through the reintroduced Rakan Muda programme, which now comes with a fresher and more inclusive approach.
He said Rakan Muda offered 10 lifestyle pillars, namely Rakan Aktif, Rakan Bumi, Rakan Demokrasi, Rakan Digital, Rakan Ekspresi, Rakan Litar, Rakan Mahir, Rakan Muzik, Rakan Niaga and Rakan Prihatin.
Through these pillars, he said youths could choose development areas that matched their talents, interests and potential.
Mordi said Labuan’s position as an international offshore financial centre and maritime hub required its youths to be bold in stepping forward and seizing opportunities in areas such as water sports, fitness, recreational sports, digital communities and entrepreneurship.
In conjunction with the event, the ministry also highlighted the Agrobelia Lestari @ Rakan Mahir programme, an initiative implemented through the National Youth and Sports Department to empower youths in the agrofood sector.
Under the programme, youth organisations are given opportunities to carry out agrofood projects with skills training, technical guidance and project implementation support.
For Labuan, the selected project is an off-grid smart farming system integrating solar photovoltaic energy and automatic fertigation for high-value vegetables, implemented by Kelab Belia Anak Layangan.
The project uses modern agricultural technology by combining solar energy and automatic fertigation systems to improve production efficiency and reduce operating costs.
Each selected youth organisation will receive RM20,000 in project support, while each state will receive RM7,000 for skills training.
The programme involves one youth organisation from each state, with 15 organisations nationwide receiving a total project support allocation of RM300,000.
Mordi said the initiative was aimed at encouraging more youths to view the agrofood sector as a modern, viable and income-generating career path, while supporting the country’s food security agenda.
He said the ministry hoped more successful agrofood projects led by youth organisations could generate income, create employment opportunities and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive youth development ecosystem.
Also present was Labuan Youth and Sports Department director Mahanum Fauzi.
