LABUAN — Seventeen Filipinos, including five children, were detained for allegedly committing an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) in an enforcement operation conducted by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) in the Federal Territory of Labuan today.
JIM Labuan director Mohd Redzuan Nawi said the detainees, comprising eight men, four women and five boys aged between four and 56, were among 128 individuals inspected during the operation.
“The detainees comprised eight men, four women and five boys, all of whom were Filipino nationals, aged between four and 56,” he said in a statement today.
The operation, which began at 12.30 am, targeted two settlements in Labuan identified as having a high presence of foreign nationals.
A total of 73 personnel from several agencies took part in the operation, comprising 29 JIM officers, six National Registration Department (JPN) officers, 18 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel, eight National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) officers, four Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel and eight Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (RELA) members.
Mohd Redzuan said all the detainees would be placed at the Labuan Immigration Detention Depot and Labuan District Police Headquarters (IPD) lock-up for investigation and further action.
“Enforcement operations will be carried out continuously to detect, arrest, prosecute and remove foreign nationals who violate the country’s laws,” he said.
He said enforcement action would be taken under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966 and Immigration Regulations 1963.
