LABUAN – The Labuan Federal Territory Karate Association continued its streak of excellence by securing one gold and four bronze medals at the 34th National Under-14, Cadet, Junior, and Under-21 Karate Championships.
The tournament, which took place from April 30 to May 3, 2026, at the Bukit Raja Convention Hall in Klang, Selangor, saw Labuan fielding a team of 11 determined athletes.
The highlight of the contingent’s performance was Diya Khalish Kasryanto, who achieved a remarkable national championship hattrick. For the third consecutive year, she dominated her category, clinching the gold medal in the Female Junior (16–17 Years) Kumite -66kg event.
Currently a student at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (SSBJ), Diya’s victory further cements her reputation for consistency and resilience on the national stage.
The Labuan squad also secured four bronze medals through the following athletes:
- Nur Ariesya Dayana Asmadie: Bronze (Female Cadet 14–15 Years Kumite -47kg).
- Nur Aleesya Dayana Asmadie: Bronze (Female Cadet 14–15 Years Kumite -54kg).
- Dayang Dania Aniezah Zulkifli: Bronze (Female Junior Kumite +66kg).
- Ayqal Mohd Dzulfadly: Bronze (Male Under-14 Kumite -55kg).
The Asmadie twins and Dayang Dania are students of SMK Labuan, while Ayqal hails from SMK Pantai. Notably, this marked Ayqal’s debut appearance at a national-level tournament, where he displayed exceptional fighting spirit to reach the podium.
Overall, Labuan finished 11th out of 34 competing teams, which included various state contingents and elite clubs. This year’s edition set a new participation record with 1,026 athletes nationwide, reflecting a significantly higher level of competition compared to previous years.
The president of the association, Renshi Aswadee Taba stated that these results signal a positive trajectory for Labuan’s karate development, proving that its athletes possess the potential to challenge for top honours in higher-level international circuits in the future.
