Strong Wind Hits Labuan Housing Area; One Injured, Several Homes Damaged

LABUAN — A man sustained head injuries after a strong wind (tornado) struck the MPL Housing area here last night, damaging several houses.
The spokesperson of the Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10.12pm before a team from the department was dispatched and arrived at the scene at 10.20pm, about seven kilometres from the station.
“A male victim suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. A fallen tree also struck an electricity pole and obstructed traffic flow in the affected area,” said the spokesperson.
A total of eight firefighters were involved in the operation, assisted by an FRT engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
Several police officers and personnel from the Sabah Electricity Department also assisted in the operation.
Meanwhile, when contacted by Labuan Times, the Labuan Civil Defence Force (APM Labuan) said that many of their personnel and all their vehicles were deployed to the affected area.
