LABUAN — Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) will organize its 8th Annual Stock Trading Competition 2026 on June 12 and 13 at the UMSKAL campus, further reinforcing the university’s commitment to enhancing financial literacy and practical investment knowledge among students.
The International Finance HE19 Club is organizing the competition, with Bursa Malaysia as the main sponsor.
Dr. Aminah Shari, 8th STC Program Coordinator, confirmed that Bursa Malaysia will be fully sponsoring all prizes for the two-day event.
The competition will feature two main categories: the School Category (open to secondary school students) with a quota of 20 teams, and the University Category (open to all IPTA and IPTS in Malaysia as well as university students from Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei) with a quota of 50 teams.
In a significant development, Kasetsart University from Thailand has confirmed its participation, becoming the first international institution to send participants to the competition. Invitation letters have also been sent to other international universities.
“The inclusion of international participants from Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei, including the confirmed participation from Kasetsart University, marks a significant milestone in expanding international collaboration. This will expose students to a more diverse and competitive trading environment,” said Dr. Aminah, Program Coordinator.
“Thus, UMSKAL continues to play a vital role in producing graduates who are better prepared to face the increasingly dynamic and competitive global financial landscape,” Dr. Aminah further said.
This partnership between higher education institutions and Bursa Malaysia as the main sponsor highlights how academia-industry collaboration can produce graduates who are financially literate, highly competitive, and well-prepared to navigate the complexities of the global financial landscape. The competition is designed to test participants’ understanding of market dynamics, risk awareness, investment discipline, and strategic decision-making using real-time trading simulations.
“With Kasetsart University on board, we are seeing growing interest from the international community. This is a great opportunity for students to benchmark their skills against peers from other countries at the international level,” said Laiba Ijaz Khan, Vice President of the 8th Stock Trading Competition.
Registration will open soon. Interested participants are advised to stay tuned to official UMSKAL channels for further announcements. The School category is capped at 20 teams and the University category at 50 teams.
“This initiative reflects UMSKAL’s continuous commitment to empowering students with practical financial knowledge, industry exposure, and critical decision-making skills. Through programs such as the Stock Trading Competition and investment talk, we aim to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world market experience, ensuring our graduates are not only job-ready but also equipped to make informed financial decisions in their personal and professional lives,” said Dr. Aminah Shari.
Beyond the competition itself, participating students will gain valuable recognition that can be added to their Curriculum Vitae (CV) as a notable achievement, enhancing their employability and standing out to future employers. Meanwhile, the committee members organizing this event will acquire hands-on experience in managing a large-scale international competition, from logistics and coordination to industry engagement, which serves as a powerful addition to their professional portfolios.
