LABUAN — Ten individuals, including the homeowners, managed to escape unharmed after a fire completely destroyed a semi-permanent house at Kampung Bukit Kalam Simpang Surau here today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 12.47 pm and dispatched the first team from the Labuan Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), with reinforcement from the BBP Layangan station. The first fire engine arrived at the scene, located 3.5 kilometers away, within three minutes.
According to the Labuan Fire and Rescue Department Operations Center, the residential structure was already fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of the firefighting personnel.
“The fire was brought under control at 1.29 pm. Firefighters subsequently carried out overhaul operations to ensure no remaining embers could reignite the property. The entire operation was officially wrapped up at 3.11 pm,” the department said in a statement.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
A total of 20 personnel and five assets, including Light Fire Rescue Tenders (LFRT), Fire Rescue Tenders (FRT), Water Tankers, and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicles, were deployed to the scene.
The operations site has been handed over to the Fire Investigation Officer (FIO) unit to determine the cause of the fire and the total losses incurred.
Other agencies involved in the coordinated response included Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), and Labuan Water Supply Department.
