LABUAN — The newly upgraded Labuan Youth and Sports Complex (KOMBES Labuan) is expected to reopen to the public on August 31, following its closure for major upgrading works since late 2021.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol confirmed that the project is currently on track and is slated for completion by the end of August this year.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” he told reporters when met after launching the Labuan Federal Territory-level National Youth Day celebration at the Labuan Financial Park here, Saturday.
Previously, according to a spokesperson from the Labuan Public Works Department (JKR), the appointed contractor had been granted several extensions of time (EOT) due to unavoidable circumstances.
Meanwhile, Labuan Youth and Sports Department director Mahanum Fauzi stated that the contractor was within their rights to request an EOT to ensure the proper completion of the project.
However, when asked if penalties would be imposed on the contractor should there be further delays, Mahanum briefly replied, “Yes.”
The complex has been closed to the public since the upgrading project commenced on December 1, 2021. Local sports enthusiasts have recently taken to social media to express their anticipation, hoping the facility will reopen as soon as possible.
