Labuan Counsellors Enhance Crisis Response Skills Through PRISMA Workshop

LABUAN — A total of 44 guidance and counselling teachers from across the Federal Territory of Labuan participated in the Human Capital Crisis Response and Psychosocial Support Team (PRISMA) Intervention Workshop held here recently.

The two-day workshop was held on June 18 and 19 at Labuhan Room, Educational Technology Resources Sector, Labuan Education Department.

Organised by the Psychology and Counselling Sector of the Labuan Education Department, the programme aimed to enhance the competency of counsellors in crisis management and psychosocial support.

It also exposed participants to procedures and actions that should be taken when dealing with emergencies and crisis situations involving members of the education community.

The opening ceremony was attended by Labuan Education Department Student Affairs Unit Chief Assistant Director Zalihah Mohd Salleh.

Also present was Labuan Education Department Student Affairs Unit Assistant Director Shawal Abdul Rahman, who has continuously supported the professional development of counsellors.

Throughout the workshop, participants were exposed to various modules related to crisis management, psychological first aid and emotional support intervention.




The programme was conducted by three experienced state education counsellors, namely State Chief Education Counsellor Sabdin Japaruddin, and State Education Counsellors Arif Rahman Hakim Tamri and Salihah Yusoff.

The sharing sessions focused on strengthening participants’ skills in identifying psychosocial risks among students and school communities.

Participants also took part in simulation activities and practical training to improve their preparedness in facing various crisis situations.

The interactive approach used throughout the workshop helped create an active, collaborative and effective learning environment.

Through the workshop, participants were able to strengthen their professional knowledge and skills in implementing appropriate and systematic interventions.

The programme is expected to empower guidance and counselling teachers as frontliners in managing the psychosocial well-being of school communities.

Overall, the PRISMA Intervention Workshop achieved its objectives and served as an important platform to strengthen cooperation and preparedness among counsellors in Labuan.
