LABUAN — An operator of a food and beverage (F&B) cafe here has been issued a compound by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan for failing to comply with price display regulations.
KPDN Labuan director Junaidah Arbain said the compound was issued during an enforcement operation conducted at about 8 pm yesterday, following information and a complaint lodged by a consumer.
She said an inspection found that the premises had failed to display the selling prices of menu packages offered to customers.
“This could mislead consumers and affect their right to obtain clear price information before making a purchase,” she said in a statement today.
Junaidah said immediate compound action was taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Regulations 2020, enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723).
Under Act 723, those convicted may be fined up to RM50,000 for individuals and up to RM100,000 for corporate bodies.
KPDN Labuan expressed its appreciation to consumers who came forward with information and complaints on violations of laws under the ministry’s enforcement.
Junaidah said public cooperation was vital in ensuring consumer rights were protected and transparent and ethical trade practices were upheld.
She also reminded all traders to comply with price display regulations to avoid enforcement action in the future.
