LABUAN — A fun fair operator in Labuan was compounded tonight for failing to display charges for several games offered to consumers.

Labuan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Junaidah Arbain said the action was taken following information and complaints received from the public.

She said a team of KPDN enforcement officers conducted an inspection at the entertainment site and found that the operator had failed to clearly display the charges for several games.

“The compound was issued at the scene for an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020, which was made under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 [Act 723],” she said in a statement tonight.

Junaidah said the regulation requires traders and service providers to clearly display prices or charges in a manner that is easily visible and understood by consumers before any transaction is made.

She said failure to comply with the requirement could affect consumers’ right to know the charges clearly before making a transaction and could cause confusion.

For the offence, an individual may be fined up to RM50,000, or be compounded under the provisions of the law, upon conviction. A company may face a fine of up to RM100,000.

Junaidah said KPDN Labuan would continue to intensify monitoring and inspections from time to time to ensure all traders and service providers comply with the laws enforced by the ministry.

“Strict action will be taken without compromise against any party that fails to comply with the regulations,” she said.

She also encouraged the public to continue channelling information or complaints to KPDN if they detect any breach of laws related to trade and consumer affairs, to ensure a more transparent, fair and ethical business environment.
