LABUAN — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Labuan seized 100 litres of suspected petrol worth RM5,377 and took action against a trader for displaying misleading price information in two separate cases here today.
The petrol seizure was carried out at about 9.13 am under Ops Tiris 4.0 (Integrated), following intelligence gathered by KPDN enforcement officers at an open parking area in Ujong Pasir.
KPDN Labuan director Junaidah Arbain said an inspection of a locally registered vehicle found five containers containing an estimated 100 litres of suspected petrol.
“However, the enforcement team found no permit or written approval from the Supply Controller for possession of the controlled item,” she said in a statement today.
She said action had been taken under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122), with the items seized for further investigation.
Junaidah said a person convicted of a first offence could be fined up to RM1 million, or imprisoned for up to three years, or both, while a subsequent offence carries a fine of up to RM3 million, or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
In a separate case following a consumer complaint, KPDN Labuan inspected a mini-market and found the trader displaying two different price tags for chicken being sold.
“The different price displays could confuse consumers regarding the actual price of the product,” she said.
She said the case was being investigated under Section 12(1)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Act 599).
A person convicted of a first offence under the provision could be fined up to RM100,000, or imprisoned for up to three years, or both, while a second or subsequent offence carries a fine of up to RM200,000, or imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
Junaidah said KPDN Labuan would continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure compliance with the law, particularly concerning controlled goods and transparency in price information provided to consumers.
She also urged the public to channel information or complaints regarding trade misconduct to KPDN through the available complaint channels.
