KPDN Labuan Takes Action Against Trader Over Expired Weighing Instrument

LABUAN — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Labuan branch has taken action against a trader for using a weighing instrument with an expired verification period for commercial purposes.

KPDN Labuan director Junaidah Arbain said the action was taken following an inspection by its enforcement officers at a business premises in Labuan today.

“During the inspection, the trader was found using a Saigon-brand spring balance whose verification period had expired on Jan 14, 2026,” she said in a statement.

The trader was subsequently issued a compound under subsection 14(6) of the Weights and Measures Act 1972 (Act 71) for using a weighing instrument with an expired verification period for commercial purposes.

Upon conviction, offenders may be fined up to RM40,000, jailed for up to three years, or both.

Junaidah reminded traders to ensure that all weighing and measuring instruments used for commercial purposes are verified and remain within the prescribed validity period.

She said compliance was important to ensure accuracy in commercial transactions and safeguard consumers’ rights and interests.

“KPDN Labuan will continue to intensify inspections and monitoring to ensure traders comply with the laws in force,” she said.
